Week 1 Class Descriptions

  

Beginning Arts and Crafts

This beginning arts and crafts class will use various mediums to produce 5-7 projects during the week. The students will paint, do mosaics, learn macramé, do weaving, work with sand, and make art using the sun. This class is best for students who have not taken my Beginning Art class in the past.

Beginning Cooking

This class will help students read a recipe and work together to create a yummy treat. They will make items suitable for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or snack. The students will try everything they make and will bring samples home. At the end of the week they will get a cookbook to bring home. **This class is not recommended for children with food allergies. We will be working with foods that contain major food allergens.**

Center Stage

All the world's a stage, and YOU are the star! Join Mrs. Sivik and discover your inner actor/actress through monologues, one acts, and improvisation. Improve your public speaking and your confidence all while "acting out".

Cheerleading Camp

These days cheerleading is a lot more than just cheering for a sports team - cheer is now a sport of its own! If you are interested in becoming a cheerleader or if you just love cheering, this week long camp is just for you! We will cover all the basics and more, including cheers, jumps, motions, beginning gymnastics, stunts, and dance. This camp is great for everyone - all experience levels welcome! At the end of the week we will have a performance for friends and family! I have run a cheerleading camp for over 10 years in my own backyard that I managed and owned. Also, I was a Penn State Varsity cheerleader for four years and instructed college prep camps. I look forward to sharing my love of cheer with you and your friends!

Doll House Builder

Come use your imagination and your creativity to build your own doll house. Design and decorate your interior and exterior walls, fill the rooms with handmade furniture, and make it come to life with handmade dolls.

Field Hockey

How hard can you hit?! Did you know Miss Nalewanski hit her way all the way onto the Virginia state team and went to Nationals in high school to play field hockey? She is calling female field hockey players of ALL levels to come learn and expand their knowledge of the game, and the skills needed to play! Through games and practice, players will work to learn about everything from the basics of handling a stick, dribbling and passing to some fun, more challenging tricks. No experience is needed - just love for learning a new game and fun in the sun with friends! ALL ARE WELCOME! **Each student will need their own field hockey stick (can be rented or bought), field hockey shin guards, a mouth guard, and field hockey goggles or cage. Either tennis shoes or cleats should be worn.**

Harry Potter and the Summer of Quest

Have you received your Hogwarts letter? If so, catch the Hogwarts Express and take part in the next installment of JK Rowling's hit series, Harry Potter and the Summer of Quest! Students will be sorted into a Hogwarts house, create their own wands, study potions and more, as they take part in magical activities inspired by the popular book series.

I’m an American Girl

Let's learn about history the American Girl way. By looking at some of the characters given to us by the American Girl series, we will explore how times have changed for girls from the past to the present. To get a deeper understanding of living in the past, we will talk about clothes, taste foods, and create crafts to get a true sensory feel of history. The camp will conclude with a girl and doll tea party on the last day. This camp is designed to help girls look towards the future and build self-confidence by understanding the past.

Launching into Kindergarten Academics

This class is perfect for rising Kindergartners who are working on the basic foundational skills in both reading and math. Half of the class will be reading-focused and the other half will be math-focused. Reading activities will concentrate on phonics, phonemic awareness, and high frequency words, which are the stepping stones to learning to read. Math activities will focus on the foundational math skills of number sense, algebra, and algebraic thinking.

Lego Master Builders

Calling all talented lasses and fellows! This class is here to unlock your master builder potential. We will be working with a highly sophisticated inter-locking brick system to take on challenges both big and small. First, we will tap into our imaginations to develop something awesome. Afterwards we will create an instruction manual to share with others like the ultimate Lego creators!

Moving Up in Reading

Reading is a blast! Come work with old and new friends to explore the wonderful world of reading. Work on reading strategies to help prepare you for the upcoming year and blow your new teacher away. We will focus on building fluency and comprehension through interactive games and reading activities.

Oh, A Camping We Will Go!

In this session students will learn the basics of camping, invent a tent, create some camping crafts, sing campfire songs and do a little campfire cooking. **Students with food allergies should contact us first as some major food allergens may be used.**

Puppets: This class is for students interested in learning the art of puppetry. Students will have a chance to shine as they express their creativity through the art of puppetry. In only the afternoon session students will showcase their skills as they work together to present a musical program.

Science Fun!

In this class we will explore the great experiments that science has to offer! This camp will be geared to beginning scientists. We will do a variety of experiments that will get us interested in the many wonderful things we can learn.

Slime Time!

It's SLIME TIME! In this class we will study new science concepts every day while making different types of slime. This might get a little messy, so dress accordingly!

Soccer FUNdamentals

Come learn the fundamental skills to be successful in soccer! This class will take place outside when appropriate. Students will participate in games, scrimmages, and drills to hone their individual and team skills. Come join the FUN! **Students will need to provide their own ball and shin guards. Cleats are optional.**

Step Up to Kindergarten

Get ready for the Kindergarten experience at Chesterbrook by Stepping Up this summer! This class is for any student starting Kindergarten in the fall. Get a feel for the experience through stories, group activities, dancing, music, academics, play, and fun!

Water, Water, Everywhere!

Do you like getting wet? Do you like science too? Let's combine them both and see what water can do! You’ll be a scientist and set up experiments, and you'll see how water can be used to make your own paper! We'll also have some fun with water games when those summer days get hot!
