Week 2 Class Descriptions 

Advanced Arts and Crafts: Let's craft! Students will work on 4-5 projects during the week. They will use various mediums and crafting techniques. Some possible projects include macramé, mosaics, latch hook, nature prints, weaving, knitting, sewing and jewelry making.

Advanced Cooking: This class will help the students read a recipe, work on measurements, and work together to create some yummy treats. They will make items suitable for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and snack. The students will try everything they make, and sometimes they will bring samples home. They will receive a cookbook at the end of the week. **Because we will be working with foods that contain the major food allergens, this class is not recommended for children with food allergies.**

Basic Outdoor and Survival Skills

Ever wondered if you could survive living in the outdoors, or do you just want to be able to enjoy a camping experience without looking like a novice? This class will teach and equip students on how to appreciate and learn basic skills to use in the great outdoors and how to survive in an outdoor setting. Skills that will be taught include: using a compass, basic orienteering, leveraging nature’s clues to finding your way in the wilderness, learning how to find and make drinkable water, woodcraft, learning how to tell the weather, and setting up a tent. Students will also learn how to make a shelter using natural materials, avoid getting injured or hurt in the outdoors, make a bow and arrow, identify plants and critters, keep their body temperature near 98.6 degrees, cook and identify edibles in the outdoors, as well as many more practical and campcraft skills.

Beginning Arts and Crafts: Slime, pom-poms, glitter, and more! Channel your creativity by making beautiful crafts to take home and share with your family. This class is perfect for younger students who want to practice their coordination and fine motor skills. Let's learn to release our inner artist, work together, and make friends!

Center Stage!: All the world's a stage, and YOU are the star! Join Mrs. Sivik and discover your inner actor/actress through monologues, one acts, and improvisation. Improve your public speaking and your confidence all while "acting out" without the pressures of a performance.

Character Crafts: If you like to be read exciting stories and to create cool crafts, this is the class for you. Each day we will read silly, fun, or famous story books and make creations based on the characters and themes in the story. Be ready to hear some funny voices during read-alouds and to use a ton of craft materials to make cool stuff!

Chesterbrook Hoops: Do you like to shoot hoops and hit the court to practice your skills? Come join Miss Nalewanski on the court to LEARN and PRACTICE dribbling, shooting, passing, and more! Through fun drills and exciting games, we will practice our skills and strengthen our love for the game of basketball! Sign up today to learn skills that will have you hooping for years to come!

Cheerleading Camp: These days cheerleading is a lot more than just cheering for a sports team -cheer is now a sport of its own! If you are interested in becoming a cheerleader or if you just love cheering, this week-long camp is just for you! We will cover all the basics and more, including cheers, jumps, motions, beginning gymnastics, stunts, and dance. This camp is great for everyone - all experience levels welcome! At the end of the week we will have a performance for friends and family! I have run a cheerleading camp for over 10 years in my own backyard that I managed and owned. Also, I was a Penn State Varsity cheerleader for four years where I instructed college prep camps, and I’m currently the Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Langley High School. I look forward to sharing my love of cheer with you and your friends!

Dr. Seuss Discovered: What do green eggs really taste like? Have you ever played ten on top with your friends? Have you ever painted by blowing through a straw or stamping fruit? Enter into the magical world of Dr. Seuss where we will dive into some of his classic books with story reading, crafts, and some tasty fun.

Experimentation Station: Have you ever wanted to become a scientist or engineer? In this class, we will do experiments to figure out the answers to our wildest questions! We will be designing parachutes, building balloon rockets and catapults, creating filtration devices to clean water, modeling the forces in bridges, and much more. This class is perfect for students who want to think scientifically, build models, and learn about the world!

Go Nuts for Nature!: In this class, we will explore the great outdoors and learn all about the environment around us. We will observe different wildlife, create projects from nature, conduct experiments, and even learn fun games to play outside!

Grades: 2-4

Launching into First Grade!: This class is perfect for rising first graders who are still working on the basic foundational skills in both reading and math. Half of the class will focus on reading and the other half will concentrate on math. Reading activities will be focused on the stepping stones of learning to read: phonics, phonemic awareness, and high frequency words. Math activities will emphasize number sense and algebraic thinking which are foundational math skills.

Lego Master Builders: Calling all Lego enthusiasts! This class is here to unlock your master builder potential. We will be working with a highly sophisticated inter-locking brick system to take on challenges both big and small. We will tap into our imaginations to develop something awesome!

Minecraft EDU 2: Adventurers: Minecraft EDU is a controlled online world that is virtually endless because it requires players to continually design, seek, explore, and even defend what they have created in a multiplayer environment. During this session of Minecraft EDU: Adventurers, your children will be developing their higher-level thinking and collaboration skills as they create and defend a medium level civilization.

Movie Making Magic: Have you ever wanted to star in a sci-fi action movie? Or what about a hilarious comedy film? Now is your chance to put your creative ideas to the test! By the end of the week you will create and star in your own movie! In this class, we will learn all about creating a script, using a green screen to design sets, developing props, acting out scenes, and filming and then editing your very own movie masterpiece. At the end of the week we will have a film festival to present all of our movies!

Outdoor Games: Do you love playing outside? Do you enjoy learning new games? This class will teach you fun, outdoor games you can play by yourself, with your family, and with your friends. Come find out what new games you can play with your friends at recess next year!

Reading Is Fun!

In this fun and interactive class, students entering first and second grade will review the basic skills of reading fluency and comprehension. They will practice their reading skills by reading a variety of texts, and they will also learn how to answer basic comprehension questions.

Science Fun!

In this class we will explore the many experiments that science has to offer! This camp will be geared to beginning scientists. We will do a variety of experiments that will get us interested in the many wonderful things we can learn.

Slime Time!: The slime craze continues in this week-long SLIME adventure! Make a new slime every day, learn a science concept or two, and create fun slime projects! Be sure not to wear your favorite outfit...this could get messy!

Soccer FUNdamentals: Come learn the fundamental skills to be successful in soccer! This class will take place outside when appropriate. Students will participate in games, scrimmages, and drills to hone their individual and team skills. Come join the FUN! **Students will need to provide their own ball and shin guards. Cleats are optional.**

Step Up to K: Get ready for the Kindergarten experience at Chesterbrook by Stepping Up this summer! This class is for any student starting Kindergarten in the fall. Get a feel for the experience through stories, group activities, dancing, music, academics, play, and fun!

Superhero University: Have you ever dreamed of being a superhero? There is more to it than just wearing a snazzy costume. Come to superhero university to learn the values and the problem-solving techniques that it takes to be a good superhero. Become your own unique avenger with superpowers and a snazzy handmade costume. Take your newfound powers on awesome adventures where your skills help you overcome difficult situations, solve problems, and achieve new goals.

Water Water Everywhere!: Do you like getting wet? Do you like science too? Let's combine them both and see what water can do! In this class you will be a scientist and set up experiments, and you'll even get to see how water can be used to make your own paper! We'll also have fun with water games when those summer days get hot!

The WRITE Way:

Penmanship is quickly becoming a lost art. This class will provide an opportunity for your child to develop their handwriting skills. Students will practice writing and printing each day, and we will focus on spacing and letter formation. The basics of cursive will be taught, and students will learn to write in cursive using shaving cream. The class will have a tactile component each day to make the writing process enjoyable. Students will write in sand or use chalk to develop their fine motor skills. To culminate the class, students will write a handwritten letter to a grandmother, relative, or veteran.
