Week 4 Class Descriptions

Beginning Keyboarding: This class will help students become familiar with the keyboard and the home keys. Students will work on accuracy and remembering which fingers touch which keys. They will be introduced to several sites that work specifically on certain keys. Each student will get a list of the sites used in class so that they can continue their practice at home. This class is designed for the student who is still at the beginning stages of typing.

Chesterbrook Hoops: Do you like to shoot hoops and hit the court to practice your skills? Come join Miss Nalewanski on the court to LEARN and PRACTICE dribbling, shooting, passing, and more! Through fun drills and exciting games, we will practice our skills and strengthen our love for the game of basketball! Sign up today to learn skills that will have you hooping for years to come!

Dr. Seuss Discovered: What do green eggs really taste like? Have you ever played ten on top with your friends? Have you ever painted by blowing through a straw or stamping fruit? Enter into the magical world of Dr. Seuss where we will dive into some of his classic books with story reading, crafts, and some tasty fun.

Fun in the Sun: Do you enjoy being outdoors? Do you enjoy projects, reading, and playing games? This class is perfect for students who just want to have fun and enjoy the beautiful sunshine.

Go Nuts for Nature!: In this class, we will explore the great outdoors and learn all about the environment around us. We will observe different wildlife, create projects from nature, conduct experiments, and even learn fun games to play outside!

Green Rangers: Project Wild: Do you like to interact with nature? Do you like animals? Do you like to build bird houses? If so, this is the right summer adventure for you! Green Rangers: Project Wild is a problem-based learning class that focuses on habitats and wildlife.  Our goal is to develop awareness, knowledge, skills, responsible behavior, and constructive actions concerning wildlife and their local habitats. During this class, students will be taking a close look at the health of their local habitat by conducting nature bio-blitzes, water quality tests, macro-invertebrate studies, and pollution surveys. Students will be using this information to create an action plan to improve their local habitat.

Kindergarten STEM: Calling all up-and-coming kindergartners who love science, technology, engineering and mathematics! In this class we will learn about the process that engineers go through, how to identify problems, and design/create solutions to those problems. During this week we will face tiered challenges that will be solved with the help of our new friends and our imaginations.

Minute to Win It!: How many small balls can you move from one plate to another in one minute? 10, 25, 30? Do you think you can stack 45 empty cups into a pyramid in one minute? Come and find out how quickly a minute can pass by. We will learn fun games you can try with your friends and family. We will make estimates of the activities and learn how to create our own Minute-To-Win-It games to share with others.

Moving Up in Reading

Reading is a blast! Come work with old and new friends to explore the wonderful world of reading. Work on reading strategies to help prepare you for the upcoming year and blow your new teacher away. We will focus on building fluency and comprehension through interactive games and reading activities.

Reading Is Fun!

In this fun and interactive class, students entering first and second grade will review the basic skills of reading fluency and comprehension. They will practice their reading skills by reading a variety of texts, and they will also learn how to answer basic comprehension questions.

Slime Time!: The slime craze continues in this week-long SLIME adventure! Make a new slime every day, learn a science concept or two, and create fun slime projects! Be sure not to wear your favorite outfit...this could get messy!

Song Writer’s Workshop: Whether you're a song writer, poet, or just want to have some fun writing some music, join me for a week-long song writer's workshop! No experience required. Feel free to bring an accompanying instrument if you would like.

STEAM: It’s STEAM time! Are you a wonder, a curious learner, a team player, a creator? Do you enjoy participating in hands-on activities to apply your knowledge to a task? Do you like a little friendly competition? Yes? Then this is the place for you! Come learn and explore the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics through a new lens, take thoughtful risks, have fun while problem solving, and engage in experimental learning!

STEAMtales: Who doesn't love fairy tales? But have you ever wondered just how did Alice in Wonderland get out of the maze? Or how long and wide was the Billy Goat Gruff's bridge? Or how much air was needed to knock down a house made from straw? Here's your chance to find out! Join us as we explore different fairy tales and use critical thinking and engineering to solve these dilemmas.

STEAM Engine: In this interactive and engaging class, students will be introduced to basic science concepts, such as observation, inference, and prediction. They will be growing their own plants, investigating why some objects sink while others float, and working together with their peers. The class will be a fun way for beginning scientists to develop their curiosities in science and engineering!

Step Up to K: Get ready for the Kindergarten experience at Chesterbrook by Stepping Up this summer! This class is for any student starting Kindergarten in the fall. Get a feel for the experience through stories, group activities, dancing, music, academics, play, and fun!

Superhero University: Have you ever dreamed of being a superhero? There is more to it than just wearing a snazzy costume. Come to superhero university to learn the values and the problem-solving techniques that it takes to be a good superhero. Become your own unique avenger with superpowers and a snazzy handmade costume. Take your newfound powers on awesome adventures where your skills help you overcome difficult situations, solve problems, and achieve new goals.

Sweet Tooth: What's more refreshing on a hot summer day than some ice cream? We will be learning how to make homemade vanilla and chocolate ice cream, among other no-bake desserts, including yogurt parfaits and granola energy bites. We'll also be making the classics: chocolate chip cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and more! If you want to practice your baking skills and share your awesome desserts with your family, this is the class for you!
